LETS TALK BIKES

I have been riding a bike (2 wheel pedal bike) since 2012.    It was really born when the price of gas went over 4/gallon in San Jose, CA.   I started thinking, "this is ridiculous, I'm not going to pay THAT much to drive my car around, so I started riding my late husbands old steel Free Spirit, 25 year old Sears bike.   Not too long after that, I picked up a 2008 CANNONDALE SYNAPSE (Triple 9-speed, aluminum with carbon fork)  to ride around town, and do solo and group rides.

About that time, I was doing caregiving for my good friend in 2012,    I walked into a bike shop in Castro Valley, CA for some reason, and the owner sold me an Edge 200, and introduced me to Strava      I quickly got hooked and started riding more.   It beat running and the knee issues I was having.       I started riding to my friends house close by, and was doing more riding and transit, than driving (I still needed a car for certain tasks).

Enter riding for a charity..... 2014 I started training rides with them, upping my miles to around 3000/year
The first year I did that ride, 6100,  then up to 9000 or so in 2015.  & 2016.     Been around 7K since then, even in the year I had my more major bike incident, and the last 4 years of non-bike incidents.     (see Medical for that storyline)

I have climbed the volcano on Maui (Haleakala) on a 2-wheeler, in my year on O'ahu in early 2018.

I've been in two bicycle incidents... Doored in 2014, and the one that really triggered my safety and resource kick, 2018. where I broke my leg. due to an existing dangerous condition on one of the campus streets in SDSU. I consulted an attorney and it was Richard Duquette (911law.com) He got me a fair settlement after 2.5 years of preparation.  In addition to safety pages, it helped me understand the underbelly of the shady dealings of shell LLC companies, both during my lawsuit, and in quite a bit more detail with the BONUS ADU PROGRAM, where I'm lending my data skills to help them get information on various ruination projects throughout San Diego City (CoSD)

Riding also helped me copy with the cancer of my soul mate, Reed, who died in early 2024.   Miles were my meditation, and most of my trips to see him at various rehab centers, were on my bike.  Some round trips were more than 40 miles, it's why I still logged 7000 miles in the year he was sick with cancer.

I still ride, almost daily, using my car to only go to Costco or a few of my casino gigs in places where transit doesn't go.

By all means, have fun, try and ride more than you drive.  Your body and health will appreciate it. ☺

See you on the roads... Below, and on the upper menu, are various subjects that feed my passion for cycling.

WHO DOES WHAT????

I have had discussions with representatives of CAL TRANS D11, who really worked with me, doing the extra effort to get me the information I was seeking… who is responsible for the maintenance of the various bike pathways in and around San Diego county. I have a pretty complete list in spreadsheet form, and in mapping. If you have any further questions or want an answer to any other locations, I can make contact again I was able to obtain maintenance agreement between the COSD and CALTRANS D11 regarding what you think might be one entity, but is actually the other. This also makes the difference on whether you make a maintenance request at CAL TRANS or the get It done app or other related apps from different municipalities throughout the county. Almost every municipality has an app, with the exception of Lemon Grove,

For a little fun stuff for you billy goats that never found a steep hill you didn’t like. From Torrance to Torrey Pines and out to the Great Western Loop, I have pictures and some descriptions and a fun story line on my own experience. Your results may vary.     There's a smattering here, with much more on w2f.fit.

Various shots of both just interesting shots I get while on a pedal bike   You never know what you're going to see on any given day.

RESOURCES-- FIND THE APS, REPORT PROBLEMS!

Links to different city apps to report a problem and the mapping to make sure you don’t report it on the wrong one. Most cities have reporting apps, with the exception of Lemon Grove.
